NHL trade rumors for February 24, 2022 feature the Leafs looking to make a J.T. Miller trade with Jake Muzzin going on LTIR.

There is a lot of NHL trade rumor chatter that the Toronto Maple Leafs will look to make a significant trade while Jake Muzzin is out on LTIR.

With Muzzin possibly out till the playoffs this will give the Maple Leafs $5.625 million in salary cap space to make an impact trade.

The Leafs will most likely look to add a defenceman, but NHL rumors have been floating around that the Leafs are looking to make a J.T. Miller trade.

Elliotte Friedman was on the Jeff Marek Show and stated, I think Miller is exactly what the Leafs need. I think Toronto could make that deal if they wanted to. They have prospects that the Vancouver Canucks would want, but the Maple Leaf’s are very protective of some of those prospects and have made it very clear they won’t do them for rentals.

If Toronto decides to pass on a J.T. Miller trade, Chris Johnston of TSN reports, Ben Chiarot happens to be a player that the Leafs have at least made some calls on to Montreal. The big question is, do the Leafs want to give up a first round pick for a rental?

One other position the Leafs could possibly look at is goaltending. Toronto is right near the bottom of the league in 5v5 save percentage since the new year and could possibly look at trading for a goalie.

  1. Only a TML fan would think to write about trading for a forward after losing one of the two decent defensive d’man on their roster.

  2. The Leafs need defensive help, not another offensive forward in J.T. Miller.

The goalies also need to make a save or it will be another 1st round playoff exit.
