The NHL season has not gone as planned for the New York Islanders. NHL trade rumors were circulating over the weekend that Cal Clutterbuck was available for a trade. Now reports are going around that teams are calling the Isles about the availability of Zdeno Chara.
Pierre LeBrun was on TSN’s Insider Trading and confirmed that teams are calling GM Lou Lamoriello about a Zdeno Chara trade.
LeBrun went on to say, Chara is an interesting situation. Chara does not have a no-trade clause, but he’s a future Hall of Famer and the sense around the league is that the Islanders are going to go to Chara at some point and see if in fact he actually wants to move.
Despite Chara, 44, having slowed down a bit, he’s still a major leader and a very physical presence that could help a contender being a third pair defenceman.
I see the Pittsburgh Penguins making a trade for the Big Z.
