NHL trade rumors for February 22, 2022 feature the Toronto Maple Leafs interested in Blackhawks forward Brandon Hagel.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have struggled lately and NHL trade rumors are making the rounds that the Leafs are still looking to make more moves even after the Ilya Lyubushkin trade.

Elliotte Friedman was on Sportsnet’s The Jeff Marek Show and stated one of the players Toronto looked at over the last month was John Klingberg. I think he was someone the Leafs considered but they didn’t do it. Friedman said the acquisition cost was too pricey for the Leafs and number two, they look at it and say we got guys like him.

Friedman went on to say, I still think it’s a possibility, I wouldn’t want to rank it on a scale of 1-10, but I still think there’s a possibility that Justin Holl or Travis Dermott gets traded, I don’t think Toronto has given up on the possibility of that.

For the forward group it is believed Pierre Engvall is the player that could be moved and the Maple Leafs are targeting Chicago Blackhawks forward Brandon Hagel.

Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff reports with Toronto getting their defenceman in Ilya Lyubushkin, they could circle back on Hagel? It’s his contract and cost certainty that’s making teams drool.

If the Leafs want to make a Hagel trade, Seravalli states it will cost the Leafs a first-round pick, plus top prospect territory.

Hagel is under contract for two more seasons at a very cap-friendly hit of $1.5 million AAV.
