NHL trade rumors are circulating that Dallas Stars defenceman John Klingberg has requested a trade. This should come as no surprise and NHL rumors were going around last month that the Stars and Klingberg could not agree to a contract extension.

Last month Jeff Marek on Sportsnet’s 32 Thoughts segment reported that pending UFA John Klingberg was seeking an eight-year $64 million contract extension from the Dallas Stars.

The Carolina Hurricanes have already reached to the Stars about his availability. This is no word on what other teams would be interested in a Klingberg trade.

The problem Dallas has with trading Klingberg right now is the team is fighting for a playoff spot and might decide to keep him as their own rental. Klingberg would rather be traded but it is a wait and see situation for Klingberg and the Stars.

Klingberg does not own a no-trade clause and has a cap-friendly salary cap hit of $4.25 million.
