NHL rumors for February 25, 2022 feature the Nashville Predators trying to re-sign Filip Forsberg. If he can't be signed, he will be traded.

Back in the offseason NHL rumors floated around that the Nashville Predators could look at trading Filip Forsberg if the Preds were unable to re-sign him to a new long-term deal.

Elliotte Friedman was on the Jeff Marek Show and reports the Preds are trying really hard to re-sign him and GM David Poile does not want to head to the NHL trade deadline without Forsberg signed to a new contract.

Friedman went on to say, Nashville knows they have to pay Forsberg more than Matt Duchene and Ryan Johansen whom each have a $8 million AVV but they will not go higher than Roman Josi’s $9,059 million AVV.

The big question is, will Forsberg accept an AVV of $9 million/year or does he want to test the free agent market? GM Poile could keep an unsigned Forsberg past the NHL trade deadline, but it’s not his preference, and won’t happen if progress isn’t being made.
