NHL trade rumors for February 6, 2022 feature the Vegas Golden Knights looking to trade Alex Martinez to free up salary cap space.

With Jack Eichel slated to play at some point this month, the Vegas Golden Knights will have to clear cap space to fit Eichel’s salary cap into the lineup. NHL trade rumors have Vegas shopping defenceman Alec Martinez.

Martinez is slated to come off injury reserve soon and with defenceman Bryaden McNabb recently signing a three-year deal it has made Martinez expendable.

Owen Krepps of Vegas Hockey Now reports Alex Pietrangelo and Shea Theodore will not be traded and with new contracts to Zach Whitecloud and McNabb, that leaves Martinez the odd man out.

Krepps went on to say, with Martinez out for the past few months, the Golden Knights have remained one of the top teams in the Western Conference.

If Vegas can find a way to make an Alec Matrinez trade, they can avoid shipping out one of Evgenii Dadonov or Reilly Smith whom have been rumored to be traded earlier this season when Vegas made a trade for Jack Eichel.

Martinez, 34, has a cap hit of $5.25 million till 2023-24 and owns a modified no-trade clause which consists of 16 teams no-trade list this year which could complicate a trade.
