Once Jack Eichel makes his debut for Vegas, Reilly Smith appears to be the odd player out. The New York Rangers will have interest in making a trade.

When the Vegas Golden Knights made the trade for Jack Eichel, it was known one of Reilly Smith or Evgenii Dadonov would be traded to free up cap space to fit Eichel in the lineup.

With Mark Stone and Max Pacioretty back to full health and Eichel expected back in late January / early February, the Golden Knights will have to move out salary and that player is believed to be Reilly Smith.

Frank Seravalli of The Daily Faceoff reports Smith is at the top of the list of trade options Vegas has to deal. He has an expiring contract and Vegas will have to move out around $5million in salary cap space when Eichel makes his debut for Vegas.

Seravalli went on to say, if Nick Foligno fetched one first and two fourth-round picks last year, Smith should net a better return.

Seravalli can see the New York Rangers making a trade for Reilly as Rangers coach Gerard Gallant knows him well and the Rangers forwards need help on the right side.
