Igor Shesterkin has a lower-body injury. Can backup goalie Alexander Georgiev fill the void after recently requesting to be traded.

With recent NHL trade rumors circulating that the New York Rangers could trade backup goalie Alexander Georgiev, a trade may have to be put on hold as the Blue Shirts have lost Igor Shesterkin with a lower-body injury.

Georgiev has been unhappy in New York with his playing time and being a backup to Shesterkin. Now he will have a chance to prove himself.

Shesterkin was playing his way to a shutout, with 19 saves before leaving at 5:08 of the third period last night after appearing to suffer a right leg injury stretching out face-down in the crease.

Shesterkin was not putting any weight on his leg as he was leaving the ice and was extremely frustrated about the injury. Let’s hope this is a short-term injury. From the video below, it appears to be a groin injury.
