NHL Rumors for February 9, 2022 feature the Calgary Flames looking to trade for secondary scoring. They could target Claude Giroux.

The Calgary Flames currently sit in the last spot to make the playoffs but have a bunch of games in hand on teams ahead of them and NHL Rumors have the Flames looking to trade for secondary scoring to help with a playoff push.

Pierre LeBrun was on TSN’s Insider Trading and reports Flames GM Brad Treliving is looking at trading for secondary scoring.

LeBrun went on to say he feels Treliving will target the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators in terms of looking at the forward trade market. Most top teams are seeking defence and not forwards so this could give the Flames an edge on who they want to trade for.

Claude Giroux could be another option. He does hold a no-move clause and will control where he goes if he decides to leave Philadelphia.

  1. Actually on Chychrun if the Coyotes took Zadorov instead of Hanifin, the Flames could make it Zadorov, a first, Valimaki or Mackey AND Gawdin or Phillips

  2. Toffoli, Anderson and Chiarot would all be good adds from the Canadians. Ottawa doesn’t really have anything the Flames need that they’d trade unless they’re willing to trade Connor Brown.

Giroux probably costs too much to acquire. A bigger grittier more physical center like JT Miller or Tomas Hertl would be a better fit. Or a young player with a low cap hit that they can afford to keep longer, someone like Pavel Zacha.

And then there’s always Jacob Chychrun. He’d be worth trading Hanifin, a first and a prospect like Gawdin or Phillips, maybe even Valimaki for.
