NHL Rumors for February 3, 2022 feature the Dallas Stars showing interest in a Jeff Petry trade.

With Jeff Petry looking to be traded out of Montreal and the Canadiens looking to shed salary, NHL rumors have the Dallas Stars interested in a Jeff Petry trade.

Pierre LeBrun was on TSN’s Insider Trading and reports the Dallas Stars could emerge as a team with interest in a Petry trade, the idea being that if the Stars move John Klingberg, who as we know has asked for a trade, they can turn around and replace him with Petry.

LeBrun went on to say, the Habs don’t have to trade Jeff Petry right now and they’re not moving him at a discount just because he’s struggling this season, teams have to step up.

Petry, 34, has another three seasons of a hefty $6.25 million cap hit and owns a modified 15 team no-trade clause. Petry would prefer a trade to a US team as his family just moved to Michigan to live in an area with fewer COVID restrictions than Montreal.

If Petry wants to be traded at the March 21 trade deadline, he needs to play better to increase his trade value. That contract with his play right now will make it tough to move him for value.
