Will the Tampa Bay Lightning ask Steven Stamkos to waive his full-movement clause to facilitate a trade?
Will the Tampa Bay Lightning ask Steven Stamkos to waive his full-movement clause to facilitate a trade?

Steven Stamkos was approached by team management last year about waiving his full-movement clause and he said no. It is looking like management might approach Stamkos again at some point as the Tampa Bay Lightning would like to open up some more salary cap space.

The question is, does Stamkos want to give up the great weather, multiple cups, no (or low) taxes, a consistent Stanley Cup contender, the guess is no and he would rather retire.

Joe Smith of The Athletic reports, he does not see any club willing to take on the remainder of Stamkos’s contract. The 31-year-old Lightning captain carries an $8.25 million AAV hit through 2023-24.

The Lightning would not want to retain salary as that would defeat the purpose of the trade. The only way Stamkos would likely demand a trade is if he has a falling out with the coaching staff or he see’s his playing time reduced.
