If the Calgary Flames struggle the first half of the season one of Johnny Gaudreau, Matthew Tkachuk or Sean Monahan will be traded.

The Calgary Flames had a disappointing season last year. Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan and Matthew Tkachuk all under performed which resulted in the team missing the playoffs.

Eric Francis of Sportsnet reports GM Brad Treliving scoured the trade landscape all summer long with an eye on altering a core that has repeatedly struggled to live up to expectations.

At last years NHL trade deadline there were rumors that the Philadelphia Flyers had interest in making a trade for Gaudreau. This offseason NHL trade rumors were going around that Treviling was shopping Tkachuk.

Gaudreau is set to become a free agent next summer and if the Flames cannot re-sign him to a new deal by the 2022 NHL trade deadline, Treliving will be looking to trade Gaudreau.

Monahan has been linked to the Ottawa Senators, but it is looking like Calgary would like to keep Monahan and Tkachuk moving forward.

What the Flames do the first 40 games of the season will decide if Treliving has to make changes to the core or will he keep the team as is?
