Senior columnist Eric Francis and SportsNet analyst for the Calgary Flames dropped a little bombshell that he does not believe Johnny Gaudreau will re-sign with the Calgary Flames and will end up in Philadelphia.
Francis is quoted as saying, “There is zero doubt in my mind that he is not going to re-sign in Calgary. He says otherwise, but I think he is destined for Philadelphia,” Francis said when asked about Gaudreau’s future with Calgary. “I think people have thought that from the day he signed here and he’ll ultimately be a Flyer.”
Gaudreau, 27, has one year left on his contract after this season and comes with an AAV of $6.75 million and a modified-NTC.
If this NHL trade rumor is true and Gaudreau will not re-sign with the Flames, it is likely he will be traded in the off-season to one of the teams on his modified NTC. With the information leaked out, that could hurt the Flames in what they can get for Gaudreau knowing that he has no intention of re-signing with Calgary.
