GM Jeff Gorton has stated that Tony DeAngelo has played his last game for the New York Rangers.
Gorton says DeAngelo had been upset since being scratched after the first game of the season . At some point, Gorton told DeAngelo if there was one more issue, he’d be removed from the team. That happened after Saturday’s skirmish with goalie Alex Georgiev.
DeAngelo has a salary cap hit of $4.8 million for this season and next. The likely options for the Rangers are to trade him for some sort of lowly draft pick and free up the cap space or trade him for a 2nd round pick and eat half his salary.
DeAngelo had 15 goals and 38 assists for 53 points last year in 68 games. He can be a solid acquisition for another team if he learns to behave.
