Hurricanes deciding what to do with Staal and Ward
The Hockey News: Carolina Hurricanes GM Ron Francis must soon reach a decision regarding pending UFAs Eric Staal and Cam Ward. If Francis cannot re-sign or decides that Staal and Ward are not in the Hurricanes future, he will most likely trade both by the NHL Trade deadline. The Anaheim Ducks have cap room to make a trade for Staal.
Are the Sens shopping Jared Cowen?
The Fourth Period: It appears the Ottawa Senators are looking to trade defenceman Jared Cowen. The Senators are looking to add a top-six forward and could package Cowen in order to get one. Cowen, 24, has an annual salary cap hit of $3.1 million and one-year left on his contract beyond this season.
