The NHL Holiday Roster freeze starts now and ends on December 28. Here are the main points around the freeze.
What to remember…
- Roster Freeze applies to all Trades, Loans & Waiver placements.
(meaning team cannot trade a player, loan him to the minors, or place him on waivers) - Freeze begins on December 19th at 11:59pm local time.
- Freeze ends on December 28th at 12:01am local time.
- Freeze affects the following players:
-
- Active Roster
- Injured Reserve
- Non-Roster
- Injured Non-Roster
What are the exceptions…
- Players may still be recalled to their NHL clubs during this period.
- Players placed on waivers prior to the freeze on December 19, but who are claimed after the freeze has taken effect, must still report to the claiming club.
- Clubs may loan a player during the freeze period should the club activate a player off Long-Term Injury/Illness, & a corresponding move is required to maintain roster compliancy.
- Players who were on the team’s active roster under Emergency Conditions prior to December 19, may be returned to their respected clubs during the freeze period.
- Players who were recalled AFTER December 11th, may be returned to their respective clubs no later than December 23rd at 11:59pm local time.
(so long as such a player does not require waivers in order to be returned)
