The Montreal Canadiens are looking to add a few pieces to their team to make a Stanley Cup run. One player they are eyeing is Mattias Ekholm.

With the NHL trade deadline less than a month away, teams are calling the Nashville Predators on the asking price for Ekholm. NHL Trade Rumors have the price being quite high. The Fourth Period is reporting the asking price is a first round pick, or a second round pick plus a prospect.

The Habs could look at moving Victor Mete as part of a deal for Ekholm. Earlier in the season, it was reported that Mete’s agent Darren Ferris had talked to GM Marc Bergevin and told him, Mete would like to be moved to have an opportunity to play somewhere else.

Ekholm, 30, is in the fifth year of a six-year, $22.5 million contract. He does not own any no-trade protection and his $3.75 million AAV is appealing to a number of clubs.

The Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers and Winnipeg Jets also have interest in Ekholm.
