The Winnipeg Jets are looking to add some defensive help at the NHL trade deadline and could target Predators Mattias Ekholm.

The Winnipeg Jets have already pulled off a big trade this season when they shipped out Patrik Laine for Pierre-Luc Dubois. GM Kevin Cheveldayoff appears ready to make a NHL trade deadline move to make a run at the Stanley Cup.

The Jets currently sit four points back of the Toronto Maple Leafs with two games in hand. Right now Winnipeg has just over $2.8 million of cap space available from LTIR to make a trade.

NHL Rumors have been going around that the Jets have interest in improving their defensive corps and will be targeting Nashville Predators defenceman Mattias Ekholm.

If the Jets miss out on Ekholm, they could target Columbus Blue Jackets Dman David Savard or Buffalo Sabres defenceman Brandon Montour.

Cheveldayoff stated, “The deal has to feel right from a fit perspective,” he explained. “But then the deal also has to feel right from an acquisition cost perspective. The quarantine is something that we just have to deal with. If you can find that deal you like and it fits, then you just do it whenever.”
