
The Calgary Flames have signed newly acquired defenceman MacKenzie Weegar to an eight-year contract extension worth $50 million which gives the Flames a yearly salary cap hit of $6.25 million.
Weegar had one year left on his current contract which had many Flames fans wondering if Weegar would re-sign in Calgary or test free agency next summer?
Weegar, 28, was drafted 206th overall by the Florida Panthers in the 7th round of the 2013 NHL entry draft. Currently over a career that spans 6 seasons, he has a total 121 points in 306 games played, and 5 playoffs points in 20 games played.
