NHL trade rumors for July 4, 2022 feature Johnny Gaudreau. Will he re-sign with the Flames or choose another team when free agency starts?

As the days tick down to NHL free agent frenzy on July 13, NHL trade rumors are floating everywhere on what will Johnny Gaudreau do?

Right now, it is looking like a 50/50 chance he re-signs with the Calgary Flames. Earlier this year rumors had the Philadelphia Flyers as a serious contender to sign Gaudreau to a big contract.

It is believed the Flames have offered Gaudreau an 8-year contract offer worth $9.5 million per season. Other teams can only offer a 7-year term so to beat the Flames offer, a team would have to offer close to $11 million per season.

“It is status quo in that I’m told (as of now), Johnny Gaudreau remains undecided about the offer from the Calgary Flames.”

“His camp has not communicated to the Flames one way or another where this is headed at this point.”

Pierre LeBrun, TSN, Insider Trading

Gaudreau, 28, had a career-best 40 goals and 115 points in 82 games this past season and it is likely a team has offered Gaudreau an $11 million contract and he is deciding on what offer to take.

Do the Calgary Flames target Filip Forsberg?

If Gaudreau does decide to bolt and sign with another team, do the Flames target another pending free agent in the exact same scenario as Gaudreau in Filip Forsberg?

It has been reported the Nashville Predators offered Forsberg an 8-year contract worth 8.5 million per season.

The free agent frenzy period will be very interesting an active if Gaudreau and Forsberg do not re-sign with the teams in the next week or so.

  1. Johhny Gaudreau is NOT re-signing with the Flames. He is gone.

I think the Forsberg signing would be a smart move. I believe he wants a NTC in his contract which the Preds refuse to give out.
