NHL trade rumors for March 31, 2022 feature the Philadelphia Flyers looking to sign Johnny Gaudreau in the offseason.

Now that the Philadelphia Flyers have moved on from captain Claude Giroux, management is planning what they will be doing in the offseason. NHL trade rumors have already been circulating that the Flyers will target Johnny Gaudreau in the offseason.

Charlie O’Connor of The Athletic reports they would like to target a big fish this offseason and that fish is Johnny Gaudreau. In order for the Flyers to sign Gaudreau, Philadelphia will have to move out salary.

O’Connor suggests the Flyers will try and trade James van Riemsdyk at the 2022 NHL draft. The Flyers would likely have to retain a portion of van Riemsdyk’s $7 million salary cap hit for a trade to happen.

A van Riemsdyk trade alone will not free up the Flyers salary cap space to sign Gaudreau, so O’Connor states the Flyers would also likely need to move one of Travis Konecny, Ivan Provorov or Travis Sanheim if they wanted to make a big splash.
