NHL trade rumors have been circulating that Jack Eichel is unhappy in Buffalo and would like out. Eichel, 24, does carry a $10 million cap hit for the next five years so there are only a handful of teams that can take on his cap hit and have the assets to make a trade with Buffalo.
Larry Brooks of the New York Post reports the New York Rangers should pursue Eichel and if a trade were to happen the first player Buffalo is asking for is Alexis Lafreniere.
The Sabres are not trading Eichel for draft picks and prospects. They want a top-end roster player in return. Either Lafreniere or Kaapo Kakko would have to be in a package going back to Buffalo for a trade to happen.
Buffalo will be in no rush to trade Eichel, and if he is traded, it might not be a 2021 NHL trade deadline deal but an off-season move.
