In what is shaping up to be a busy offseason with trades as many teams are rebuilding, teams have no salary cap space and some players have no desire to re-sign with their current team.
In the case of William Nylander and Connor Hellebuyck, the Leafs have no cap space and Nylander is due in a new contract next year in which he will be seeking a $9 million/year deal.
As for Connor Hellebuyck, NHL rumors have him telling Winnipeg Jets management he has no desire to re-sign in Winnipeg and would like a trade.
Nylander for Hellebuyck trade coming this offseason?
TSN NHL analyst Mike Johnson was on TSN Radio 1050 and was discussing on what the Toronto Maple Leafs will do with William Nylander. He feels their priority is to keep the core four together and sign Nylander long-term.
But if the salary does not work and Nylander is seeking a deal in the $10-$11 million/year range, Johnson feels the Leafs should look at Winnipeg Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck. That potential trade would solidify the Leafs goalie situation if they have no desire in re-signing Ilya Samsonov.
I’m upset hellebuyck wants to leave it puts us in need of a reliable goalie again and I’m not sure if Nylander is a good trade
