There is still a lot of chatter going around about a Jack Eichel trade. The Buffalo Sabres would like to get a deal done soon so they can move on from this who Eichel ordeal.
Elliotte Friedman was on the 32 Thoughts segment on Hockey Night in Canada and reported that one of the biggest hurdles in getting a Jack Eichel trade done is the Buffalo Sabres do not want retain any of his salary in a trade.
Friedman went on to say, the Sabres are willing to take contracts back to facilitate a deal. One interesting team Friedman mentioned in his 32 Thoughts piece was the Colorado Avalanche made a call to Buffalo about a trade but needed the Sabres to retain salary which Buffalo would not do, so talks ended there.
Jeff Marek also on the 32 Thoughts piece mentioned the Vegas Golden Knights have interest but the Sabres want Peyton Krebs and Nicolas Hague in a trade but Vegas refuses to give up Krebs.
It is looking like for an Eichel trade to happen, a team will have to take on the remaining four years at $10 million a year Eichel contract. The Sabres will take a bad contract back but they also want top prospects and high draft picks.
