The Colorado Avalanche have a salary cap problem like many other elite teams in the league. They want to improve the center position this offseason but in order to do that, they need to shed some salary.
It is looking like Samuel Girard will be the odd man out on the backend to free up the Avalanche cap space needed to make some moves.
Samuel Girard will be traded this offseason, Habs interested?
Last year NHL trade rumors were making the rounds that the Montreal Canadiens were interested in a Sam Girard trade and Habs management could circle back this offseason to check on the asking price.
Frank Seravalli of The Daily Faceoff reports that the Avalanche have around $13 million of salary cap space available next season to sign 9 players. The math just does not work and someone will have to be moved.
Seravalli believes that player is Samuel Girard.
Girard, 24, has 4 more years left on his Girard at a very reasonable $5 million cap hit.
