Auston Matthews contract update
Read about the latest Auston Matthews contract news. Will he re-sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs or depart when his contract expires.

With NHL training camps opening today, the Toronto media was all over the Auston Matthews contract news and asking the superstar forward about his next contract and will he re-sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs?

Matthews was quick to shut down any rumors about his contract stating, he has no news on his contract status and that he will not be discussing it during the season.

Matthews is still under contract with the Maple Leafs for another two seasons, but next summer he can sign a contract extension with Toronto if he chooses to.

What is being said about the Auston Matthews contract

Pierre LeBrun was on TSN 1050 radio and was asked about the Auston Matthews contract and what he knows.

LeBrun figures if Matthews had the choice to sign an extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs right now, he would do it.

If the Toronto Maple Leafs fail to get past the first round of the playoffs this year, it will affect the Auston Matthews contract negotiations with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Matthews wants to win, and he may look somewhere else if the Leafs have another early round exit.

How long will Auston Matthews next contract be?

Frank Seravalli was on Toronto’s local Sportsnet 590 radio station and was discussing Auston Matthews with the radio DJ’s. Seravalli was asked if Matthews will re-sign in Toronto and he believes he will, but not a maxed out long-term deal.

Frank thinks Auston will set the bar even higher than the Nathan Mackinnon contract and Matthews length of contract will be 5 years and not 8 years so he can maximize his salary one more time on an 8-year deal before he retires.
