The Maple Leafs solidify their forward depth by signing Connor Dewar to a one-year contract extension, avoiding arbitration.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have secured the services of center Connor Dewar for another season, signing the restricted free agent to a one-year contract extension worth $1.18 million.

The deal comes after Dewar filed for arbitration earlier this summer, but both sides managed to reach an agreement before a hearing.

Dewar Deal Avoids Arbitration, Provides Maple Leafs with Depth Scoring

Dewar, 24, joined the Maple Leafs at the NHL trade deadline in a deal with the Minnesota Wild, where he spent the first part of the 2023-24 season. The energetic forward quickly became a valuable depth piece for the Leafs, known for his tenacious forechecking and penalty-killing abilities. In 18 games with Toronto, he notched four goals and nine points.

Over the course of the entire season, Dewar compiled 11 goals and 19 points in 74 games split between the two teams. He also added an assist in the Maple Leafs’ first-round playoff series against the Boston Bruins.

The signing of Dewar addresses a need for the Maple Leafs, providing them with a reliable bottom-six center who can contribute offensively and defensively. With his speed and work ethic, Dewar is expected to be a key part of the Leafs’ penalty kill and forechecking efforts in the upcoming season.
