After last night’s 5-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs it is apparent that the Edmonton Oilers need an elite goalie if they want to contend for the Stanley Cup.
NHL Trade Rumors were circulating earlier this season that the Oilers had interest in a Marc-Andre Fleury trade and that might be something the Oilers will look at if they can make Fleury’s cap hit work.
Elliotte Friedman reported earlier in the week that the Oilers would be targeting goaltending, the left-side of the defence and a third-line centre in a trade.
The Oilers would likely have to find a way to send Mikko Koskinen and his $4.5-million cap hit in any goalie trade to free up the cap space needed.
Whatever the Oilers do, GM Ken Holland will have to be crafty because right now they have only just over $1 million in available cap space.
