The Buffalo Sabres have lost 4 in a row and sit last in the East division. One thing you do not want to do in this shortened NHL season is go on a long losing streak. The Sabres will be in tough to make the playoffs.
If the Sabres are out of playoff contention by the 2021 NHL trade deadline, they will have a decision to make, do they trade Taylor Hall for some draft picks/ prospects or try to sign him to a long-term deal in the off-season?
Darren Ferris, the agent for Hall, is notorious for normally bringing his clients to UFA but in this case Hall might decide to re-sign before the trade deadline. Pierre LeBrun was on TSN’s Insider Trading and stated that Hall has an interest in listening to the Sabres for a contract extension.
The Sabres can re-sign Hall on March 12, 2021 if Hall decides he wants to stay in Buffalo. If no deal is reached, the Sabres may look at a trade and circle back in the off-season to see if they can lock him up to a long-term deal after July 28th, when the free agent signing period starts.
Taylor Hall is on a 1-year deal with the Sabres with a $8,000,000 cap hit.
