Darren Dreger was on TSN’s Insider Trading and was asked about Jake Virtanen. Dreger confirmed there are teams interested in making a trade for Virtanen.
Virtanen has struggled to start the season with only 1 goal in 14 games. Dreger stated that Virtanen has a cap hit of $2,550,000Â for this year and next and and any player coming back in a trade would have to match his salary or less because of the flat salary cap expected for next year.
Dreger went on to say the Canucks would like a young forward in return. NHL Trade Rumors going around have mentioned the Boston Bruins interested in Virtanen. The Canucks would likely ask for Jake DeBrusk in return.
The other teams believed to be interested in Virtanen are the Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres and New Jersey Devils.
Virtanen, 24, was drafted 6th overall in the 2014 NHL entry draft.
