Will Seattle Kraken forward Shane Wright be demoted to the OHL or stay with the big club in Seattle?

There has been a lot of chatter on Shane Wright. The Seattle Kraken forward is playing in the shadow of fellow rookie Matthew Beniers and with Wright playing limited minutes or being scratched NHL fans are wondering what will the Kraken do with Wright?

Will Shane Wright stay with the Seattle Kraken?

Darren Dreger was on TSN’s Insider Trading and stated it is very likely Shane Wright will stay with the Seattle Kraken.

Dreger went on to say, there is a clause in the NHL/CHL agreement that allows junior eligible players to be loaned to the AHL. Wright would have to be a healthy scratch for 5 straight games.

I think I can improve, prove to the coaches, prove to my teammates, that I belong here. … So I’m going to do everything I can to make sure I stay here.

Will Shane Wright be demoted to the OHL?

The Kraken would rather have Shane Wright stay in the NHL and play limited minutes than be returned to the OHL.

The Kraken are considering loaning Wright to the AHL where he can stay for a maximum of 14 days. Kraken management are also looking to loan him to Canada for the World Junior Hockey Championship at Christmas time.

Wright, 18, still has lots of time to develop. It might be disappointing to Wright if he is demoted back to the OHL for the remainder of the year, but that might be the best course of action the Kraken can take to have Wright develop into the player they think he can be.

He has logged one assist, one shot on goal and a +3 rating in six games of NHL action so far this season.
