NHL rumors for May 3, 2022 feature Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron and will he re-sign, retire or sign with the Habs this offseason?

NHL rumors circulated a few months back that Patrice Bergeron could sign with the Montreal Canadiens in the summer as a free agent. With the Habs in a rebuild, that will likely not happen.

Joe Haggerty of Boston Hockey Now reports, the Boston Bruins have made it clear they want Bergeron to be there #1 center next season, after he posted 25 goals and 65 points in 73 games in his 18th NHL season.

There are also rumblings that Bergeron could retire after the Stanley Cup playoffs are over. Bruins GM Don Sweeney believes Bergeron will be back for another season instead of retiring.

Haggerty believes if Patrice does return, it would be on a one or two-year deal to close out his NHL career around a supporting Boston Bruins cast that’s still Stanley Cup-caliber.
