It was reported a few weeks back that the Calgary Flames had interest in a Tyler Toffoli trade. Now it has been completed.
The Flames were looking to trade for a proven top-six forward and GM Brad Treliving felt Toffoli was the best option.
In exchange for Toffoli, the Canadiens receive forward Tyler Pitlick, prospect Emil Heineman, a first-round pick and a 2024 fifth-round pick in return for Toffoli.
The first-round pick involved in the deal is top 10 protected in 2022. If the pick falls within the top 10, then Montreal will receive a 2023 first-rounder instead along with an added fourth-round pick from the Flames.
This is the first big trade of NHL trade Deadline 2022, so let’s see if the floodgates open for other teams to make some moves soon.
