With the NHL trade deadline only five weeks away and if the Toronto Maple Leafs want to make a trade with a team south of the border, GM Kyle Dubas will have to make a move soon with the 2 week quarantine required for players coming from the USA to Canada.
NHL Trade Rumors and specifically Leafs rumors that have gone around that Toronto has interest in the likes of Sam Bennett, Mattias Ekholm, Brandon Montour, Luke Glendening and Ryan Dzingel.
Michael Trikos of the Toronto Sun reports, Toronto doesn’t need a winger like Taylor Hall. It doesn’t need more skill or scoring. It needs more blue-collar players like Zach Bogosian and Wayne Simmonds. Guys like Nashville defenceman Mattias Ekholm and Calgary forward Sam Bennett. It needs guys that can push back against Boston and Tampa and Vegas. Guys that can help the Leafs win the Stanely Cup.
This is the best Toronto Maple Leafs team in years and not having to face Boston, or Tampa until the conference finals, the Leafs need to make a few depth moves that will add grit to their lineup. Yes the Leafs are up against the salary cap, but Dubas and friends must find a way to make the trade.
Expect to read about a lot more NHL trade rumors in the next few weeks about the Leafs as they will NOT wait until the trade deadline to make a trade.
Thumbs up to you Rob Ellis. TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS SHOULD TRADE FOR GRIT.
If Kyle Dubas does not acquire some GRIT then it will be another disappointing early exit from the playoffs this year. It’s too bad that we lost out on the opportunity to acquire Sam Bennett.
Darryl Sutter certainly knows the value of grit and he will patch things up with Bennett. That said there are still some players out there that can fill the role. Borowiecki comes to mind. Rumour has it that he is available and certainly won’t cost 8 million.
