NHL trade rumors for June 5, 2022 feature the New York Islanders trading goalie Semyon Varlamov. The Oilers, Vegas and Capitals have interest.

After the recent firing of New York Islanders coach Barry Trotz, the team is looking for a more offensive style of play and NHL trade rumors are floating around that GM Lou Lamoriello will look to free agency or the trade market for a top-line winger to skate alongside Mathew Barzal.

In order for the Islanders to add a top-line winger, they will have to free up salary cap space and the one player Lomoriello will look to trade is goalie Semyon Varlamov.

The Fourth Period reports teams did call the Isles about Semyon Varlamov at the NHL trade deadline but Lamoriello could not find the right deal to make a trade.

The three teams that could have interest in a Varlamov trade this summer are the Edmonton Oilers, Vegas Golden Knights and the Washington Capitals.

The Oilers had interest at the NHL trade deadline. Varlamov was asked to waive his no-trade clause to the Edmonton Oilers, however, Varlamov was not interested. The Oilers could revisit the trade again this summer.

The Vegas Golden Knights are another team with interest in a trade for a number one goalie. Robin Lehner has not worked out in Vegas. They do have salary cap issues, but as everyone knows, Vegas always finds a way to fit a player into the salary cap.

The Washington Capitals are the third team that have interest in a Varlamov trade. The Caps will be looking to upgrade their goaltending situation as Vitek Vanecek and Ilya Samsonov have proved they are not ready for the #1 role.
