Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane has been suspended one game for his dangerous hit from behind on Nazem Kadri. View the video below to see the hit.

Kadri has been ruled out for rest of the Western Conference Final series and possible the Stanley Cup finals. What could be more costly to Kadri is if his injury requires surgery.

He is due to be an unrestricted free agent this summer and if the injury is serious it could affect what he makes on his next contract. NHL trade rumors had him making around $8 million/year on the open market as he is likely not to re-sign with the Colorado Avalanche.

Statement from Kane on the Kadri hit:

“I was just coming in on the backcheck,” Kane said after the game. “Puck went wide, kind of dribbled into the corner. I know he likes to reverse hit. I was just trying to get a bump on him, that’s really all I did.
