The San Jose Sharks had a disappointing season and they have no intention of looking into a rebuild of the team. They want to contend for a playoff spot next year. The Sharks would also like to shed some salary cap space as they are tight against the cap.
Elliotte Friedman was on Sportsnet’s 32 Thought’s segment and reports, the Sharks feel Brent Burns and Erik Karlsson have not meshed together as Sharks management had hoped.
Friedman went on to say, there was some very preliminary trade talks during the season involving Karlsson and a couple of teams but nothing materialized.
For a Karlsson trade to happen, he will have to void his no-trade clause as he does own a full no-movement clause and has a hefty Sharks salary cap hit of $11.5 million AVV until the 2026/27 season.
San Jose will have to retain some salary in a Karlsson trade and could the Buffalo Sabres be one of the teams interested?
