The New Jersey Devils believe it is time to contend for the playoffs and they are willing to trade their 2022 first round draft pick to help improve the team.
The Devils do have the fifth best odds at 8.5% to win the 2022 NHL Draft Lottery and if they do win, they likely keep the pick and draft Shane Wright.
Wes Crosby of NHL.com reports GM Tom Fitzgerald is open to whatever can help improve the Devils. “If it’s trading our first round pick, wherever it may be, to help bring in a player that we know and feel will help impact the results that we are looking for, absolutely.”
The NHL draft lottery will take place Tuesday May 10 at 6:30 p.m. ET, which will give the Devils their draft pick position to shop around until the NHL entry draft which takes place on Thursday July 7, 2022.
