Could Owen Tippett become the next major addition to the Seattle Kraken? According to Anthony Di Marco’s November 6 report for Daily Faceoff, Seattle GM Jason Botterill is aggressively exploring the trade market, and the Philadelphia Flyers winger represents an intriguing fit.

I’ve tracked NHL trades, contracts and salary-cap developments for NHLTradeRumor.com since February 2010. What stands out here isn’t simply another recognizable player entering the rumor mill. It’s that Seattle has the cap flexibility, Philadelphia has a clear positional need, and both organizations have reasons to explore a deal.

Important distinction: Di Marco identifies Tippett as a potential fit. He has not reported a formal Seattle offer, confirmed negotiations or an agreed trade.

Owen Tippett Seattle Kraken Trade Rumors: What Anthony Di Marco Reported

Di Marco reports that Seattle sources describe the Kraken as “big-game hunting” following an encouraging opening to the 2026-27 season.

Botterill previously pursued Dallas Stars winger Jason Robertson, reportedly exploring an enormous long-term contract. That pursuit demonstrates Seattle’s willingness to invest heavily in offensive talent.

After trading Shane Wright to Nashville for Matthew Wood on November 1, Seattle still appears determined to upgrade its roster.

That brings us to Tippett.

The 27-year-old has scored at least 27 goals in three of the past four seasons, including 28 in 2025-26. He offers explosive acceleration, a heavy shot and the ability to play either wing.

Philadelphia’s crowded wing group and shortage of high-end centres make this particularly interesting. In an October 20 report, Di Marco also revealed the Flyers’ interest in Seattle centre Matty Beniers, although there was no indication the Kraken wanted to move him.

Mock Trade: What Could Seattle Offer Philadelphia for Owen Tippett?

My proposed framework prioritizes the Flyers’ long-term need at centre rather than merely attaching draft picks to a recognizable winger.

Hypothetical proposal — not a reported offer.

Proposed Tippett trade and 2026-27 salary-cap effect
Trade component Seattle Kraken Philadelphia Flyers
Receives Owen Tippett, RW/LW Jake O’Brien, C prospect, plus Seattle’s 2027 second-round pick
NHL cap hit added $6,200,000 $0 initially if O’Brien remains off the NHL roster
Projected space before $15,422,778 $12,385,873
Illustrative space after $9,222,778 $18,585,873
Salary retained None required No retained salary obligation

Source: PuckPedia, November 7, 2026 snapshot. Calculations assume Tippett’s full $6.2 million AAV transfers and O’Brien is outside the NHL roster. Actual transaction-day space depends on roster, injuries and daily cap accounting. Not an official NHL cap certification.

Owen Tippett Contract: $6.2 Million Through 2031-32

According to PuckPedia, Tippett is in the third season of an eight-year, $49.6 million contract. His $6.2 million annual cap hit runs through 2031-32.

Seattle’s projected cap space of approximately $15.42 million means a full-cap-hit acquisition appears financially workable. Philadelphia enters the comparison with approximately $12.39 million in projected space.

There is one potential roadblock: Tippett has a 10-team no-trade list. Whether Seattle is included has not been publicly established.

Why Owen Tippett Fits the Seattle Kraken’s Top Six

Seattle has several capable centres, but its search for consistent finishing talent has been a recurring storyline.

Projected Seattle Kraken Line With Owen Tippett and Matty Beniers

My preferred hypothetical combination would be Bobby McMann — Matty Beniers — Owen Tippett.

Beniers provides two-way responsibility and puck distribution. McMann supplies north-south pressure, while Tippett offers a dangerous shooting option off the rush.

Seattle’s November 7 projected lineup had Jordan Eberle alongside McMann and Beniers. Acquiring Tippett would allow Seattle to consider redistributing Eberle’s playmaking to another line.

The trade would also create competition for power-play minutes. Tippett could provide an additional shooting threat, although Seattle must avoid blocking Matthew Wood and Berkly Catton as they develop.

I see a potential top-six winger, not a guaranteed 40-goal scorer. Increased offensive opportunity is plausible; an automatic scoring explosion is not.

What the Philadelphia Flyers Would Want in Return

Philadelphia GM Daniel Briere has made it clear that the organization values Tippett. In a June interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer, Briere said he was not actively shopping the winger, although he listens when other teams call.

That makes my proposed Jake O’Brien package a difficult decision for both clubs.

Seattle selected O’Brien eighth overall in 2025. The young right-shot centre possesses significant playmaking upside but is not yet an established NHL top-six player.

From Philadelphia’s perspective, O’Brien and a second-round pick offer a potential long-term solution. From Seattle’s perspective, surrendering a premium centre prospect creates risk.

The historical comparison I’d consider is the June 2025 J.J. Peterka trade, when Buffalo acquired Josh Doan and Michael Kesselring from Utah.

That transaction demonstrated how a young scoring winger can command valuable developing assets rather than merely a collection of draft picks. However, Peterka was younger and required a new contract, so it is not an exact valuation of Tippett.

Owen Tippett Trade Rumor Meter: How Likely Is a Kraken Deal?

TRADE LIKELIHOOD 4/10

Possible fit, but no confirmed negotiations.

Rob Ellis editorial assessment, November 7, 2026. Subjective rating, not a statistical probability.

Rob Ellis’ Verdict: Will Seattle Actually Trade for Owen Tippett?

I believe Seattle’s pursuit of a major winger is credible, and Tippett checks several important boxes: age, established goal-scoring ability and long-term contract control.

But I would not predict an imminent deal.

The Flyers do not have to surrender a productive winger on a long-term contract, particularly without receiving a centre who meaningfully improves their future. Seattle also has good reasons to protect its best prospects.

My prediction is that Botterill continues investigating substantial additions, with Tippett remaining an interesting possibility rather than the clear favorite.

The development to watch: credible reporting that Seattle and Philadelphia have discussed a specific return. Until that happens, this remains a compelling trade fit, not a confirmed negotiation.

  1. DiMarco has been spewing out several deals with several different teams, I’ve lost all faith in the guy. Being a flyer fan and following the rumors closely, I see guys like Friedman and Kurtz throwing cold water on some of his rumors over the last few years. Just saying. The flyers front office is famous for keeping things quiet and in house and yet he keeps referring to team sources. Sorry, don’t believe you DiMarco.
