The NHL rumors mill is churning, and there’s a potential blockbuster brewing between the New York Rangers and Minnesota Wild. The proposed deal that has rumor fans buzzing centers around a reunion that Rangers fans would love – the return of Mats Zuccarello.
The Speculated Trade
- Rangers Receive:
- Mats Zuccarello
- 2024 2nd round pick
- 2025 3rd round pick
- Wild Receive:
- Gabe Perrault
- Kaapo Kakko
Rangers and Wild Heating Up the Trade Market?
Why the Rangers Do It
The NY Rangers are undoubtedly looking to add some scoring punch as they gear up for the playoffs. Bringing back “Zucc,” a fan favorite and consistently effective offensive player, does exactly that. Zuccarello’s chemistry with his former linemates is undeniable, and he could seamlessly slot back into the Rangers’ top six.
Why the Wild Do It
The Wild may be looking to shake things up after what some might consider a disappointing season. Gabe Perrault, a highly touted prospect who failed to impress the Rangers staff, provides a potential course correction. Additionally, Kaapo Kakko, the former second-overall pick, needs a change of scenery and could blossom playing alongside Kirill Kaprizov. The added draft capital sweetens the pot for the Rangers.
The Verdict
While this remains a rumor, the buzz in league circles suggests it could have legs. This could be a deal that benefits both teams and provides a spark for the Rangers’ playoff push while giving the Wild a chance to reshape their future.

The alleged rumor of this proposed “deal” must have originated in some Wild fan’s wishful daydream. There is no way the Rangers are trading a 23 year old Kakko and an 18 year old Perrault, both big parts of the Rangers’ future, for a 36 year old anyone. Furthermore, Perrault was just drafted this last draft, and he is considered the steal of the draft by many experts, as he’s putting up huge numbers as a freshman at Boston College. Where you get that notion that he’s failed to impress Rangers staff when the very opposite is the case, is beyond me. If you’re going to make something up, at least do a bit of research.
