The Ottawa Senators have missed the playoffs for five straight seasons and this offseason will be focused on improving the team to make the playoffs next year.
NHL trade rumors have already circulated that the Sens will target free agent Claude Giroux during the free agent frenzy period.
Wayne Scanlan of Sportsnet reports the Senators are open to trading their first-round draft pick (2022 7th overall draft selection) and packaging prospects to get the help Ottawa needs right now to be a competitive team next fall.
Scanlan suggests GM Pierre Dorian will target a current NHLer in his prime, a top-six forward or top-four defenceman. Scanlan believes Philadelphia Flyers foward Travis Konecny would be an excellent fit in Ottawa.
If the Minnesota Wild cannot find a way to re-sign Kevin Fiala because of the Wild salary cap issues, he checks a lot of boxes as far as being a fit for the Sens. At 25, Fiala, put up an 85 point season and is a pending RFA this offseason.
