The Boston Bruins will have some decisions to make this summer. Will they trade Jake DeBrusk? Who do they find as a replacement center if Patrice Bergeron retires? Will David Pastrnak want to re-sign with the Bruins or test free agency if Bergeron retires?
Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic reports Pastrnak will be free to test the free agent market next summer, if he is not re-signed this offseason.
Pastrnak, 26, can start contract negotiations with the Bruins on July 13, 2022 where one can expect him to receive an eight-year offer. If Pastrnak decides to test free agency he can only receive a seven-year offer.
“We’ll dive right into it at the earlier possible time we’re allowed to and get that indication. There’s never been an indication otherwise. This is where he wants to play. He wants to win.”
Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney
Pastrnak will likely seek a contract worth $9 -$10 million/year on a new deal and if the Bruins are not willing to meet that demand, you can expect some NHL trade rumors to start popping up later in the summer asking about his availability.
