After the Pittsburgh Penguins were knocked out of the 2022 NHL playoffs, NHL trade rumors started floating around on what the Pens would do with Bryan Rust, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang. Would one of them be traded or can they re-sign all three?

Rust can now be removed from the rumor mill as he has agreed to terms with the Penguins on a six-year, $30.75 million dollar contract extension. The deal begins in the 2022/23 season and runs through 2027/28 carrying an average annual value of $5.125 million.

Rust’s new contract does not come with a no-move or no-trade clause.

Rust, 30, was drafted 80th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 3rd round of the 2010 entry draft. Over a career that spans 8 seasons, he has a total 270 points in 424 games played, and 35 playoffs points in 79 games played.
