Max Pacioretty to be traded soon

The Athletic: Marc Antoine Godin reports Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin won’t offer Max Pacioretty, 29, a contract extension, intending instead to trade him as soon as possible. During last month’s NHL draft, the Canadiens reportedly had a trade in place to ship Pacioretty to the LA Kings. However, the deal fell through because a contract extension couldn’t be worked out. Pacioretty is expected to seek a substantial raise in his next deal. He’ll likely look for something comparable to James van Riemsdyk‘s new five-year, $35-million contract ($7 million per season) with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Latest Justin Faulk trade rumors

The Athletic: Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Justin Faulk continues to surface in media trade chatter. The club’s recent front-office changes, as well as their recent additions of blueliners Dougie Hamilton and Calvin de Haan, is fueling speculation he’ll be on the move soon.  Faulk’s been linked to the Chicago Blackhawks in recent weeks. Having shipped Hossa’s cap hit to the Arizona Coyotes, Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman could be freeing up dollars to pursue the 26-year-old rearguard. The Athletic’s Scott Powers believes Faulk would be an upgrade for the Hawks blueline but he could prove too costly to acquire. He cited “multiple reports” claiming the Hurricanes want winger Brandon Saad in return.

Will the Edmonton Oilers trade Milan Lucic?

Sportsnet: In early-June, reports emerged claiming the Milan Lucic was being quietly shopped by the Edmonton Oilers. While the 31-year-old power forward didn’t request a trade, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said he was working with management to determine his trade value. Since late-June, however, the Lucic rumours have died down. His agent, Gerry Johansson, denied speculation his client sought a trade or was asked to waive his no-movement clause. Lucic’s $6-million annual cap hit through 2022-23 and declining production hurts his trade value. Still, it remains possible he could be moved this summer.
