Are the Montreal Canadiens interested in Patrik Laine?

TVA Sports: With the Winnipeg Jets waiting on Dustin Byfuglien to make a decision on his NHL career, Montreal media wants the Canadiens to target Patrik Laine.

Laine wants to be paid big, where the Jets would rather do a bridge deal and pay him big on his next contract as they feel Laine still needs to prove himself.

If Byfuglien retires, Montreal media believes the Habs should trade Jeff Petry, Cale Fleury both who are right shot defenceman that the Jets will need and the Canadiens will likely have to add Max Domi in the trade to complete the deal.

Will Brayden Point sign a new contract before the NHL season starts?

The Fourth Period: With the Toronto Maple Leafs locking up right wing Mitch Marner to a six-year, $65.358 million contract, Brayden Point could use that deal as a comparable in his talks with Tampa.

The Tampa Bay Lightning recently pitched a three-year offer worth around $5.75 million per season, something Point is believed to have rejected.

While the Lightning are hoping to use the benefit of playing in a state with no income tax to get Point signed to a lower cap hit, the team does have just over $8.475 million in salary cap space, according to CapFriendly.

Contract negotiations are expected to continue this weekend, as is the case with the majority of other unsigned restricted free agents.
