Will the Montreal Canadiens trade Tomas Tatar?

Leafs looking to add a defenceman

Toronto Sun: Terry Koshan reports a year ago GM Kyle Dubas made a trade for Jake Muzzin and he will likely have to do the same thing again to improve the Leafs defence if they want to make the playoffs.

A defenceman of some calibre has to be in Dubas’ sight, even if Rasmus Sandin proves he is in the NHL to stay, though it has to make financial sense for a Leafs club that doesn’t have extra dollars waiting to be found under the couch cushions.

Rentals would include players such as Sami Vatanen, Brenden Dillon and Erik Gustafsson, but as we saw with Muzzin last year, Dubas is fine with adding a player who is not on an expiring contract.

Will the Montreal Canadiens trade Tomas Tatar?

Sportsnet: Eric Engels reports difficult decisions lie ahead for GM Marc Bergevin and what he will do with Tomas Tatar?

Tatar, 29, who now has 43 points in 49 games this season, has been incredibly consistent since coming over as the “throw-in” to the deal that sent Max Pacioretty to the Vegas Golden Knights for Nick Suzuki and a 2019 second-round pick.

Tatar loves it in Montreal and it shows in his play. And if the GM wants this team to compete for the playoffs next season, Tatar figures to be a factor in helping them get there.

But Tatar can fetch a good return for the Canadiens if Bergevin decides to trade him. It is a tough decision Bergevin will have to make.
