Mattias Ekholm trade rumors
Mattias Ekholm is on the trade block again and the Leafs, Oilers, Rangers and Panthers are all interested in a trade.

Mattias Ekholm has been in the NHL trade rumors mill before but rumors were squashed when he signed a 4-year, $25 million deal to re-sign with Nashville in October of 2021.

With the Nashville Predators struggling this year and likely headed to being a non-playoff team, GM David Poille is looking to trade some assets with long-term Predators salary cap hits on the books and Ekholm appears to be the nominated candidate to be traded.

What teams are interested in a Mattias Ekholm trade?

Frank Seravalli of The Daily Faceoff reports GM Davile Poile has let teams know Mattias Ekholm is available for trade and the asking price will be draft picks and prospects. He is not looking for a player for player trade.

Seravalli went on to say in his piece that potential fits for an Ekholm trade are the Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers and the Florida Panthers.

Ekholm, 32, is a big 6’4″ defender and very durable. He has missed a total of 19 games in the last eight seasons.

The big question is, can any of the teams mentioned above afford to take on Ekholm’s contract for the next three seasons.

What are fans saying about a Mattias Ekholm trade

The Sens should look at trade for Ekholm. Can’t really afford it but hey, he’d be a great fit he can play the right side.

Summertime deal at best. Would have to be a team looking to revamp their defense to think about adding him. Although I could see Montreal do this for Edmundson and Dadonov.

His best fit is Nashville and Nashville will NOT get the return they would need to make the deal.
