John Klingberg
NHL trade rumors for October 10, 2022 feature John Klingberg. He will be traded this season but not before January 1, 2023.

John Klingberg signed a one-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks this off season. It was a somewhat surprising move as many expected the defenceman to sign a long-term deal with a team.

The Anaheim Ducks are still in rebuild mode, so it is safe to say Klingberg will not be re-signed and likely be traded at some point this season.

When will a John Klingberg trade happen?

John Klingberg has a modified no-trade clause in which he can submit a list of 10 teams he does not want to be traded to.

Another provision in his contract is that it states he can’t be traded before January 1, 2023. So he will be an Anaheim Ducks for half a season at the minimum.

Klingberg signed a $7 million deal this year, so a team trading for him will have to find a way to fit his Ducks salary cap hit into their team payroll.

What will the asking price be in a John Klingberg trade?

Ducks GM Pat Verbeek will want draft picks or prospects in a Klingberg trade since the rebuild is still in full affect and the Anaheim Ducks have no desire taking a contract back in a trade.

The asking price really depends on how well Klingberg performs. If he puts up solid offensive numbers and plays well defensively, the Anaheim Ducks could fetch a first round pick from a playoff contending team.
