The Anaheim Ducks and Winnipeg Jets meet Friday, October 9, 2026, in a matchup that could produce some excellent fantasy hockey opportunities, but the biggest story isn’t simply which team wins.
It’s what happens to Winnipeg’s defensive deployment without a fully healthy Josh Morrissey, and whether Anaheim’s young offensive stars can continue turning power-play opportunities into points.
Kyle Connor is already making an early statement. Winnipeg’s dangerous winger has five goals through four games, while Mark Scheifele remains the playmaker who can turn one defensive mistake into a scoring chance.
Anaheim has its own emerging fantasy stars. Leo Carlsson is driving the offence, Cutter Gauthier is finding scoring opportunities, and Beckett Sennecke is coming off a two-goal performance against Edmonton.
The Ducks have also scored five power-play goals through their opening three games, making their special teams one of the most interesting parts of this matchup.
I believe this game could be decided by special-teams execution and goaltending rather than overall offensive talent. More importantly for fantasy managers, I’m watching whether Winnipeg’s defensive injuries create a new power-play opportunity and whether Anaheim’s young forwards can sustain their production against a team that has earned points in every game.

Ducks vs. Jets — October 9, 2026
Anaheim Ducks vs. Winnipeg Jets Fantasy Hockey Matchup Outlook
The early statistics suggest that both teams can create offensive opportunities, but they reach that production in different ways.
Winnipeg has scored 12 goals in four games, an average of 3.00, while allowing 10 goals. Anaheim has scored nine in three games, also averaging 3.00, but has surrendered 10 goals for a 3.33 goals-against average.
The Jets have the stronger early defensive profile, although four games are nowhere near enough to establish a season-long trend.
What catches my attention is the power play.
Winnipeg has converted 40.0% of its opportunities, while Anaheim is at 38.5%. Both rates are almost certainly unsustainable over a full season, but they show how important offensive deployment has become during the opening week.
The Jets demonstrated that against Detroit, scoring three power-play goals in a 3-2 victory. Anaheim followed a similar script against Florida, scoring all three goals with the man advantage, then added two more power-play goals against Edmonton.
Winnipeg also carries a 90.0% penalty-killing rate into this matchup, compared with Anaheim’s 81.8%.
I give the Jets a slight edge because of their ability to limit opponents and capitalize on defensive mistakes. However, I would not overlook Anaheim’s scoring depth, particularly when its young forwards are given opportunities with an extra attacker.

NHL Fantasy Players to Watch in Anaheim Ducks vs. Winnipeg Jets
Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele: Winnipeg’s Fantasy Advantage
Connor is my top overall fantasy forward for this game.
His five-goal start includes a pair against Detroit and another two against Colorado. He continues to generate opportunities from dangerous shooting areas, and his chemistry with Scheifele gives Winnipeg a dependable offensive foundation.
Scheifele is just as important in points-based leagues. He delivered 103 points last season and collected two assists against Colorado, demonstrating why his passing ability remains so valuable.
I would also monitor Cole Perfetti. Winnipeg’s October 7 projected lineup placed him alongside Connor and Scheifele, creating an opportunity to benefit from the club’s most dangerous offensive pairing.
Leo Carlsson and Cutter Gauthier: Anaheim’s Young Stars
Carlsson is developing into Anaheim’s offensive centerpiece. He has six assists through three games, including three against Florida and two against Edmonton.
Gauthier, meanwhile, scored 41 goals last season and opened this campaign with two goals against Florida. His shooting ability is particularly valuable when Anaheim establishes possession in the offensive zone.
Sennecke is another player I would keep close attention on. His two power-play goals against Edmonton underline his growing finishing ability. He was recently deployed with Mikael Granlund and Alex Killorn, although Friday’s combinations still require confirmation.
On defence, Anaheim’s Jackson LaCombe offers strong fantasy value because of his offensive responsibilities and previous 58-point season.

Top Five Anaheim Ducks and Winnipeg Jets Fantasy Scorers: Scoring Index
With the 2026-27 season barely underway, I believe the most useful scoring comparison combines last season’s established production with this year’s early role changes.
Anaheim was led by Cutter Gauthier’s 69 points in 2025-26, with Carlsson close behind at 67. Sennecke finished with 60, LaCombe produced 58 from defence, and the injured Troy Terry recorded 57.
That distribution shows Anaheim has several offensive options capable of contributing instead of relying exclusively on one scoring superstar.
Winnipeg’s production was more concentrated. Scheifele led with 103 points, followed by Connor’s 92 and Gabriel Vilardi’s 69. Morrissey contributed 55 from the blue line, while Perfetti produced 32.
This is where injuries become especially important.
Losing Terry removes a proven Anaheim playmaker, while uncertainty surrounding Morrissey threatens Winnipeg’s established power-play structure. The opportunity for replacement players could be substantial, even if they do not immediately duplicate those veterans’ production.

My Fantasy Takeaway
Anaheim appears to have more evenly distributed historical production among its five leading scorers. Winnipeg has the more explosive two-player combination at the top.
For a single-game fantasy projection, I favour Connor and Scheifele, but Anaheim’s depth gives Carlsson, Gauthier and Sennecke legitimate upside.
Injuries and Absences That Could Affect Fantasy Value
Josh Morrissey — Winnipeg: Morrissey suffered an upper-body injury against Colorado and is listed as day-to-day. If he misses Friday’s game, Winnipeg will need to redistribute defensive minutes and power-play responsibilities.
Neal Pionk becomes a particularly interesting fantasy candidate if he receives additional offensive-zone or power-play opportunities. Dylan Samberg and Dylan DeMelo could also see heavier defensive workloads, although that does not automatically translate into more points.
Connor Hellebuyck — Winnipeg: The goaltender’s absence is related to a suspension amid his unresolved situation with the club, not an injury. Winnipeg has relied on Stuart Skinner and Clay Stevenson, both of whom have contributed to the team’s early success.
Skinner made 32 saves against Colorado, while Stevenson stopped 30 shots against Pittsburgh. Neither should be labelled Friday’s confirmed starter until a reliable lineup report identifies one.
Troy Terry — Anaheim: Terry remains on long-term injured reserve with a hip issue. His absence increases the importance of Carlsson, Gauthier, Sennecke and Granlund as Anaheim looks to replace established offensive production.
Drew Helleson and Ian Moore — Anaheim: Both defenders have been dealing with lower-body injuries. Their availability could influence Anaheim’s defensive pairings and ice-time distribution.
I will also monitor Winnipeg’s Elias Salomonsson, sidelined by a shoulder injury, along with Walker Duehr and Garrett Brown.
From a fantasy perspective, the key is identifying which healthy players absorb meaningful minutes rather than simply assuming every replacement will suddenly become productive.
Anaheim Ducks vs. Winnipeg Jets Fantasy Hockey Prediction
My Score Prediction: Anaheim Ducks 3 – Winnipeg Jets 4
I am picking Winnipeg to win 4-3 in what should be a competitive game featuring scoring chances at both ends.
Connor and Scheifele give the Jets the most reliable offensive combination in the matchup. Winnipeg has also shown resilience, winning three consecutive games after its overtime loss to Boston.
However, I do not expect Anaheim to struggle for chances.
Carlsson is creating offence, Gauthier remains a dangerous finisher, and Sennecke has demonstrated that he can capitalize on power-play opportunities.
The biggest uncertainty is Winnipeg’s blue line. If Morrissey cannot play, Anaheim could find more opportunities to attack the Jets’ defensive structure.
Goaltending is another factor. Skinner has provided encouraging results, but neither team’s starting goalie has been confirmed for Friday at the time of writing. That uncertainty limits my confidence in predicting the exact score.
I expect both teams to generate offence, although Winnipeg’s penalty kill and the Connor-Scheifele combination give the Jets a narrow advantage.
My fantasy prediction: Connor records multiple points, Scheifele contributes at least one assist, and Carlsson remains Anaheim’s most important offensive creator.
