NHL trade rumors have floated around that New York Rangers defenceman Nils Lundkvist is unhappy and has requested a trade. Lundkvist realizes there is no position available for him on the Rangers defensive depth chart with no top-six role available.
Montreal has interest in Nils Lundkvist?
Arthur Staple of The Athletic reports that it is very likely that Nils lundkvist does not report to New York Rangers training camp on September 21.
Staple went on to say GM Chris Drury was offered a 2022 second draft pick at June’s draft but Drury refused the trade.
It is believed the Montreal Canadiens have offered the Rangers their 2nd round draft pick for the 2023 NHL Draft to acquire Lundkvist.
Drury does not want a draft pick for Lundkvist. He is seeking a young NHL ready player in return.
As with any trade that involves a player that wants out, it will be very hard for Rangers management to find equal value for a player that has no desire to play for their current team.
